OPGW (Optical Fiber Composite Overhead Ground Wire) is a composite optical cable that combines optical fibers with an overhead ground wire. It involves placing optical fibers within the ground wire of an overhead high-voltage transmission line to form an optical fiber communication network on the transmission line. This structural form combines the dual functions of ground wire and communication, and is commonly referred to as OPGW optical cable.

- Adopting a design where stainless steel tube fiber optic units are twisted together with other metal wires;

-- Placing optical fibers inside stainless steel tubes can achieve a better excess length;

-- Precisely designed cable cross-sections ensure the electrical performance, mechanical and physical characteristics, and thermal stability of the cable;

Application Characteristics

-- According to the technical conditions of the line, by combining the proportions of aluminum and steel sections without altering the structure of the optical cable, a product that meets the technical requirements of the line can be obtained;

-- The thin-walled stainless steel tube OPGW cable structure exhibits higher resistance to lateral pressure and impact compared to the aluminum tube structure; furthermore, stainless steel boasts low conductivity, high strength, and excellent corrosion resistance, providing good protection for the optical fiber;

-- The stainless steel tube is filled with grease, which can prevent moisture or water from infiltrating; adjusting the excess length of the optical fiber can ensure good temperature characteristics of the optical cable;

- High-strength, low-conductivity aluminum-clad steel wires bear the self-weight and external load of OPGW; utilizing the principle of charge skin effect, overload or fault short-circuit currents are channeled through the outer layer of good conductors, which is beneficial for the protection of optical fibers;

- Optical cables have similar mechanical and electrical characteristics to conventional overhead ground wires, facilitating the replacement of existing old ground wires and the design and installation of new ground wires, while also serving dual functions as ground wires and communication lines;

-The excess length of optical fiber can be precisely controlled to ensure the capability of optical cables to withstand high loads and large spans.
